About Us
Make a Difference in Powys – One Action at a Time

Better Lives in Powys (BLIP) is an organising and campaigning team that is led by the people of Powys. We aim to build power within our communities by developing local leaders, to drive campaigns that affect us all.
We focus on:
-
Organising and campaigning: campaigns on local issues that matter to our community
-
People’s voices: Removing barriers and ensuring everyone, no matter circumstances or background can participate in our campaigns and ensuring decisions made, reflect the real experiences of those affected.
-
Transparency and accountability: Challenging policies and systems that create hardship and demanding clear, honest communication from decision-makers.
We work alongside the community, particularly those with lived experience of hardship to campaign for sustainable, positive change across Powys.

Why Better Lives in Powys Exists.
Make a Difference in Powys – One Action at a Time
Why We Exist:
Powys is a rural county with unique challenges — distance, transport, and stretched services affect access to essential support. Residents face difficulties including food insecurity, lack of housing, and barriers to services.
BLIP campaigns for local people, challenges policies that create hardship, and ensures everyone can live with dignity and wellbeing.
Working Alongside Official Programmes:
Our BLIP community organiser is grant-funded by Trussell and supported by Llandrindod Wells and Brecon foodbanks. We collaborate with local initiatives to tackle poverty, access to services, and other hardships, while amplifying community priorities.
BLIP is not a service provider - we connect, amplify, and coordinate so local injustice turns into practical action. We aim to build power within our communities by developing local leaders, to drive campaigns that affect us all.
Our Approach
BLIP is guided by shared principles:
-
Listening First: Valuing lived experiences alongside evidence and policy
-
Clarity Over Noise: Presenting issues in accessible, actionable ways
-
Respectful Challenge: We are non-political, we question systems and policies, not individuals
-
Long-Term Thinking: Focusing on sustainable solutions that benefit communities
Our independence allows us to highlight residents’ experiences, engage with policies, and ensure local voices drive change.
